Yeah I actually do have a really great friend in Guild Wars, and if I'm honest he is the only thing which keeps me sane whilst playing.
Oh and plus when I said the player base was "pathetic" I didn't mean there were no "normal" players, I meant there are so few you can hardly ever find them. ><
Cheers for all you other peeps' suggestions too

i've been playing for about the same time as OP and i've still got stuff to do (though i did everything backwards) i need to do most elite areas XD. easiest way for PuGging is to go with the tide, ZQ's usually take you to interesting places, the new content updates are pretty big, plenty of upcoming community events. actually pugs are a lot better than they were a year ago, just PvP has gotten slightly emptier. many people are still left in the game that like to play normally (hence the Pug QQ threads). but most stuff can be done with H/H though that takes away the social side of the game.
short answer: do what youwant, if there is nothing of interest to you in GW atm play something else or just afk until something fun comes. you can always jump back into GW at any time.

There are plenty of people you just don't see them because GW is an instanced game and the game is so huge in size by now.

If you've been playing the game for over 2 years then you definitely got your bang for your buck, but if you want further enjoyment from the game then I would suggest trying to pursue a different pve title or giving an unfamiliar pvp area a chance.
If you do decide to play another game then I would recommend http://sun.ijji.com/

I've been PUG-ing basically all of the WiK content, and I can say with conviction that this is just not true. It's a forum myth, perpetuated by people who either don't play the game, or are so elitist that they can't forgive even minor mistakes or different builds. Yes, there are sometimes better ways to get through stuff, but with all of the PvE skills we have now (and other mechanics, like Zinn's weapons) I'm still finding it faster and easier to PUG than to H/H a lot of this content. Also: it's just more fun to PUG (when people are above a minimum level of competence, which I've found to be true).

One of the best things about guild wars is that once you bought the game. You can put it down and come back to it at another time.
There's no montly fee that makes you feel like you HAVE to play.

I seem to remember from health class that your special purpose is in your pants, you just gotta find it. Maybe that is not the purpose you mean, I dunno. I finally broke my gw habit and replaced it with WoW instead. I think that is like upgrading from cheap crack to more expensive cocaine since I now have to pay $15 a month. I logged into GW over the weekend, went to kamadan, saw no one I knew online, scratched my butt a few times, got bored, logged off, and went back to WoW. I would just suggest finding something new and soon GW will seem like a distant memory. I was half hoping to find my account had been hacked so I would have no reason to ever suck on the crack pipe again, but alas... it wasnt. Like a drunk who blew out his liver and cant drink anymore but still can taste the sweet memories of Jack Daniels, I might log onto gw once ever 2 weeks just to see if I can resist the call of the ectos in spamadan.

If you're bored, the best thing to do is take a break. Don't try to force yourself to play a game you're bored with.

Reverse your thinking. This is your reason to *stop* playing!

I've been trying to finish the "Waiting Game" quest on all 8 or my characters, but my guild/alliance doesn't do the UW very often, and when they do I am not on, or they only want the usual: sin, necro, ele, monk combo.

You beat the game, try the extra missions and dungeons, then 100% guild wars if you feel like it. People need to remember Guild Wars isn't an infinite mmo. It's an RPG with an ending after a storyline. If you're tired of GW, go play another rpg. Like Xenogears.

Screw it! I miss the days when I could find ordinary players to PUG missions with, I miss the days when I could do AB without waiting for 5 minutes in between matches. So yeah, this is partly a QQ thread (ugh hate that term....), but you kind of don't need to read this bit so much, the next paragraph is more important
So what is there left to do? Seriously. I just want some ideas of what to do; what do you guys 'n' gals do for a bit of fun on Guild Wars? Mostly I find myself doing a vanquish, getting bored and then having conversations with random people in-game. It's a sad life .

Cheers for all your help guys, I suppose at the moment I'm just gonna, like, not play it as the majority of suggestions are basically saying that.
Also, it'd be great if anyone has any suggestions as to what is the best thing to do whilst logging on for maybe 30 mins to an hour. RA? AB? Missions? Whatever. For the past few weeks I've just been logging in, setting myself straight to AFK then going off to play tennis with mates >< which is great.
Oh and btw Tramp, give me your user and password and I'll happily hack you if your that desperate

Set yourself a new challenge to overcome that may or may not be rewarded by the game. Help out new players - try to make the game better for them with your expertise. Find a new niche in game to try to get into (Challenge Missions, farming, pvp?).

Really, if you're asking yourself all these questions its time to find a new outlet. I reached the same point you're at around 18 months ago. What keeps me coming back to Guild Wars is finding other games to play around with, both with guildies and without. When I feel the urge to play Guild Wars it feels fresher.

Only ever really played my ele for the past 4 1/2 years. I've no desire to get prestige items or armour, and no desire to max any of the non-playing titles ( drinking/eating/mapping etc.)
Perfectly happy doing WiK/Nic stuff and helping out anyone with THK (and trying various H/H combos for THK HM)

most of the wik stuff doesnt take that long---killing off a boss a few feet from the portal should only take a few minutes (most arent very far away) so if you want short easy stuff do those bounties

Hey OP... I think that we all know where you're comin from. I know I've been there having to solo H/H HM dungeons etc. cause I can't find a team...
For me, when I want a chance to team up but don't wanna wait, I just RA. RA can be a real challenge & is a VERY different style of game play than PvE or HA/GvG for that matter. There's rarely ANY kind of wait to launch, the matches are relatively short (usually only a few min), some of the players enjoy chat window (both team & all chat). The best part is... its a BIT of FUN. When you're done with a match, you can just leave to PvE. It's actually the only REAL PvP PUG. Cause when you try to PUG in HA or Codex (if anyone is ever there) you either need a WHOLE lot more practice/skill in that format or rank discrimination preculdes you from joining.
With that said, if you've never RA, I strongly urge you to avoid being a monk at first. I've found nothing harder in GW than monking in RA (and very few bars actually work in that arena). Good monks will usually save a team, but until you've practiced that in that gladiator style environment, it's as if you're only a moving target to most of your opposition simultaneously. So often you'll get double or triple teamed at least once during the match...
I find it's only a break from PvE tho (cause PvE is the real Cooperative part of GW).... but hey, if you've never RA, it IS different, and a BIT of FUN.
